The inaugural “Voice of the Professionals” survey by Terra Dotta canvassed more than 150 international student and scholar services (ISSS) practitioners across U.S. higher education. The results expose key retention, compensation and staffing challenges—such as turnover rates exceeding 25% in ISSS offices and a range of international student-to-staff ratios.
The findings highlight climbing regulatory demands and the urgent need for smarter operations. For example, one-third of surveyed institutions report SEVIS compliance gaps, and 20% say they use no dedicated software for international student + scholar management.
