In particular, we will explore methods for registering travelers from outside of the “traditional” study abroad channels.

SUNY New Paltz - Christian Speedling, Cindy Cullen, Kathleen Bauman Geher
So you’ve set up Studio Abroad for your outbound study abroad and exchange students and you love it and can’t picture ever going back to your old processes and systems. Are your colleagues working with inbound international students jealous? Or are you working with both sets of students and wish you could implement and use the Studio Abroad software for your inbound students as well? If the answer is yes, then this session is for you.

Make sure to register today.
International students coming to the U.S. impact or can impact the internationalization that takes place on our campuses. On many U.S. campuses, a large percentage of U.S. students don't get the opportunity to study abroad. If U.S. students don’t study abroad, what other opportunities are there for international learning on campus? Some institutions require a minimum language requirement, others have a General Education requirement that focuses on issues that are global, international, and intercultural. There are also majors and minors with an international focus (international business, international relations, international education, etc.).

Brandon Lee, CEO and co-founder of Terra Dotta, has always been passionate about study abroad.  From visiting an uncle in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic as a child, to spending his senior year of high school studying in France, to leading a study abroad program while a graduate student, he has seen firsthand how immersion in another culture changes lives.

And that passion for study abroad is the real reason that Brandon founded Terra Dotta with current CTO Garrett Christian. The two met as graduate students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where Brandon studied after holding numerous sales and management positions.  He ultimately earned an M.A. in Romance Languages, teaching French and Communications along the way.  While at Chapel Hill, the two co-founders saw a chance to develop software for the University’s study abroad office—and they never looked back.

While Brandon is thrilled to meet Terra Dotta’s clients’ needs, he knows that it’s the students who ultimately benefit.  He explains that “anything we can do to broaden student experiences, while also working to keep them safe, makes me smile at the end of the day.”

At Terra Dotta, Brandon works with the division directors and strategizes about the future of the company’s software and services.  He is a common sight at national and international conferences, where you’re equally likely to find him behind the podium discussing trends in the field as behind the karaoke microphone.  When not leading Terra Dotta, Brandon enjoys reading, golfing, playing with his three children, and spending time with his wife, Jennifer Heller, who is an Associate Professor of English at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC.
