Overview of NCLB from the government website (http://nclb.gov)
On Jan. 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). This new law represents his education reform plan and contains the most sweeping changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since it was enacted in 1965. It changes the federal government's role in kindergarten-through-grade-12 education by asking America's schools to describe their success in terms of what each student accomplishes. The act contains the President's four basic education reform principles: stronger accountability for results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.
Edufolio addresses the tenants of NCLB in each of the four principal areas:
Stronger Accountability for Results
Schools and school districts do not have statisticians who analyze what is happening with students. Edufolio allows administrators to create statistical reports by student, class, grade, school, or district with ease. Edufolio grading is real-time and web-based, so administrators won't have to wait until the end of the semester to see what is happening in their schools or districts--they can access grades and trends at any point during the semester.
Increased Flexibility and Local Control
Edufolio will allow instructors to see what areas need improvement so that they can focus their efforts and resources.
Edufolio is now an open source so any school will be able to afford it. The local control that NCLB affords schools will allow them to change the face of learning.
Expanded Options for Parents
Edufolio is a virtual link between school, teachers, students, and parents. Parents can track their children's grades and daily attendance simply by logging in to their secure website. Parents can also communicate more easily with administrators and teachers through Edufolio's community portal. Edufolio will allow parents to find out what is happening in their children's lives before problems develop.
Emphasis on Proven Teaching Methods
Because different students learn best in different ways, Edufolio provides an intuitive multimedia authoring system that allows teachers to communicate with students in several media at once. Edufolio does not limit the way an instructor presents materials to students, but opens up many optional presentation methods.
